Construction d’une place publique Building a public square
Location: Assens (VD) / Client : Municipality of Assens (CH) / In collaboration with Plarel / Built in 2007
Use to advantage the concept of a « non-lieu » (a « non-space »)
The goal is to create a convivial and multi-usage meeting space which includes children's games and activities, a stage and a podium, as well as a traffic-moderator.
To take advantage of this triangular « non-lieu » and to transform it into an agreeable central square that is clearly visible in the village, next to the school, the post-office and the community hall.
Implementation
- Reorganise traffic in order to create an ideal meeting space, as well as a totally dedicated pedestrian area
- Promote the different varieties of activities as well as the public in using urban furniture : the podium as a stage, a bench and play areas.
- Animate the space while containing and securing it with a line of illuminated poles.
- Contribute to pedestrian safety by separating the square from the road using markers.
- Reinforce the image of Assens as « a town of fountains » by installing a water-jet that is directed towards the pond.
- Unify and promote the square with the use of a composite floor surface with pieces of sparkling glass.
