How to identify and reveal the identity of a nondescript location?
The installation's goal is to heighten the primary reality of the space which is akin to a vacuum.
… Emptiness as a non-structuring space.
It is a question of defining a smaller spatial unit, a place with no concept of distance.
By putting a space out of context in its dimensions, in its characteristics, a place of constraints for the body..
The arrangement of an inappropriate « physical 'non-lieu' » reveals the components of the environment.
In the constraining space, elements are read separately, the components which limit the exhibition space, and the body is confronted to the limits of a space.
Starting from the principal that a space which constrains the body becomes a “non lieu”, the installation pushes the visitor to confront his physical and resonant force to an immersive and inappropriate context. Confronted to the limits of the space, and to a lack of distance, the spectator/actor interacts with the space.
The installation offers the visitors an experience. In a space which is inappropriate to human spatiality one’s physical being is opposed to a substance that limits space. Thus, from a substance created by light, one's body physically confronts a substance.
The substance of the body, towards the inevitable struggle of man to master substances which nevertheless dominate him.
