Building a scalable luncheon space for the MGM café
Location: Lausanne (VD) / Client: Private / In progress
The idea driving the project is to create a mobile enclosure on the roof of the existing terrace.
Taking into account the continuity of the urban façade on the lake, the design respects the place and its surroundings. It creates a dialogue with both its natural and constructed environment.
The building's composition of volumes is organised around the size and orientation of the existing spaces. A continuous self-supporting structure defines the limits of both the interior and exterior space. It performs a similar function to the existing trees on the site, and also to the structure that organises the spaces on the interior.
This extension is an ethereal intervention (the panels of glass slide behind one another) so as to create a minimum impact on the surroundings as well as an optimised interior space.
All aspects of the design such as security and comfort were taken into consideration in order to make the terrace a space of relaxation dedicated to contemplation.
