City intervals
The site is part of a vast urban periphery, separated from ‘south of the station’ the neighbourhood by the railroad tracks.
Its general character is as a free space, fluid as is the feeling of the valley, carrying the mark of the immense longitudinal flow, the Rhône and the trains. The zone to be treated qualifies as a welcoming sector for public and/or collective activities: EMS, nursery, park, show room, CFF station.
The identity of the site does not express itself across the urban framework of rails, but more so as a vast fluid space.
This fluidity is maintained as much at the level of the routes (non linear) as at the points of visual openings (diagonal views, transparencies at the ground level, modularity of built volumes at the upper levels)
To profit fully from the open spaces, the presence of the automobiles discreet and modulated, as much at the building level (transparent base) as at the Place de la Gare (underground parking, drop-off zone).
Altogether the site organizes itself like a large meeting zone, giving priority to the pedestrian routes and easy mobility. … It’s about intensifying the notion of “living together”…
