Construction project for a daycare, a school unit, and a sports complex
Location: Collombey (VS)/ Client: Municipality of Collombey (CH)/ In collaboration with Jean-Paul Chabbey/ Competition on pre-selection
A geometry that connects two entities of a constructed fabric
The project gets its meaning from a simple territorial positioning. In the pattern, there is a significant piece of gathering of an urban seam between two built-up areas. In the cutting, it spatially connects the level of the town along the road to the level of the sports activities located below.
Positioned in split levels, the building offers entry space and free exterior spaces to suit the needs of every activity: at the highest split level, the access to the preschool is made at the level of the main road through a large square reception and garden, both protected from the risk of road traffic. At the lower half-level, access to the academic unit and the common areas is made directly from the clearances provided by the areas reserved for sports and relaxation. The two entries, complementary in their daily use, meet in the great hall, bathed in light. Being radial the “core services” provides transparency between the empty interior and the landscape.
The functionality of the building offers: an interior place reserved for different daily activities in addition to special events; a synergy between the athletic areas and the ‘canteens’ of the daycare and the academic unit; a minimal expropriation of the territory favourable towards the future development of the sector.
