Building an individuel house on the edge of an agricultural zone
Location: Bex (VD) / Client: Private / Gross Area : 242m2 / Construction Manager: Quartal
The story of an apparition
The project attempts to reinforce the geomorphology of the area. Existing data is analysed - the « what is already there ». From a rational geometry, dictated by the heterogeneous nature of the neighbouring buildings, the house fits into its surroundings. The direction of each side of the house orients the project. When changing the point of view, one loses the understanding of its shape, while discovering a new situation, a façade that responds to its environment.
The constructed volume, introverted on the street side opens up to the south, facing the landscape.
The volume emerging from the surface is dug-out on the ground floor. This area, built on two split levels, opens up to the garden. The first floor contains the more private spaces. The service area, built around a central core, is itself oriented towards a vegetable patio, and is bathed in an eastern zenithal light.
In being oriented to it, the house becomes party to the landscape. Indented, the project is subordinate to its landscape. With a simple geometrical modification, it adopts a contextual bearing. In this way, the landscape extends into the house in interacting with the landscaped extensions.
The house becomes a revelatory tool and captures the poetic randomness of the area.
