Urban and architectural conceptual project: 42 residences

A neighborhood with two faces
The project integrates the linear character of the site that flows along the river Fosseau. It describes sequences and visual breakthroughs which frame parts of the landscape. This site is at the intersection of two influential lines: the directional axis of the town (the urban environment), and the axis of the river and the canal (the natural environment). This project, at the same time constructed and natural, is in a strategic location whose character is central to the upper districts of Vouvry. The project creates a landscape event which structures and frames the natural axis. This place of convergence and conviviality in the heart of a zone of personal residences, offers side passages through the site, creating a district of small public zones that are far from urban traffic.
Public meeting spaces are imagined: a rhythmic promenade in the overhang of the river, a place of pause in the extension of the side of the street of the accompanying Paper mill of Fosseau (The Miller), and in the center of the plot of land “ a garden of games “. The project inserts itself into the old town of Vouvry, and traces a continuous line along the street of the Paper mill.
Taking into account the pattern of the surrounding vernacular buildings (houses in bands layered on one another), the new buildings respond to the weight of the old by creating through-spaces allowing for a transverse movement on the site, and thereby offering a porosity to the neighbourhood.
Traces from previous buildings can be seen on the site. The project is placed on these intersecting lines on both existing plateaus. Three plinths emerging from the ground (supported by light construction) structure the continuity of the town and install milestones for the future.
